ABOUT HABITAT INTERFAITH PARTNERSHIP (HIP)

HIP is a coalition of 7 faith-based groups and 2 secular groups that will sponsor and build a Habitat house in partnership with Flower City Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is a housing ministry that works with God’s people to eliminate poverty housing around the world and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat welcomes partners from any faith -- or no faith -- who are willing to pick up a hammer and help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter.

Flower City Habitat for Humanity, the Rochester area affiliate, builds and renovates houses in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Homeowners are selected on the basis of their need for housing, ability to repay a no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat by providing 300 hours of “sweat equity” and completing courses in financial management, home repairs, safety, etc. to help ensure they will become successful homeowners.

The coalition members of Habitat Interfaith Partnership (in alphabetical order) are:

HIP has two primary goals: (1) to obtain the required financing and provide the volunteer labor to help build a Habitat house and (2) to better understand and appreciate the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths represented in the coalition, all of which derive from Abraham.

So far HIP has helped to build the following five houses in Rochester:
